Frequently Asked Questions

Inkjet Catridges

1. What is the proper way to handle an inkjet cartridge?
Do not leave the inkjet cartridge outside the printer as ink will dry and clog the printhead nozzles. Use the inkjet cartridge immediately after it has been refilled by Inké.

2. Why does a cartridge print horizontal white lines?
There are 2 main causes for horizontal white lines to appear on your print out.

  • Clogged Printhead Nozzles
Horizontal lines in printing may indicate that dried ink residues have blocked the printhead nozzles. This will cause poor printing such as the white lines.
  • "Burnt Out" Printhead Nozzles
Inkjet cartridges have electrical resistors with a fixed value that control the current to each outlet jet. When the print head is over-heated, the resistance value changes permanently.

The ink in the cartridge acts as a coolant to these resistors. However, when the cartridge is empty and you continue to print, overheating occurs. After much overheating, the resistance value will not be in the acceptable range and this leads to color distortion, weak printing or both.

The life of the cartridge is diminished when the ink runs dry and the resistors overheat. Furthermore, this limits the number of times the cartridge can be refilled.

3. Why does the printhead get clogged?
Ink that dries up at the nozzles will clog the printhead. Remember: it is important to refill a cartridge as soon as it begins to run out if ink. This prevents ink from drying and clogging the printhead nozzles.

4. What should I do if my print head is clogged with ink residue in the nozzles?
Prepare a shallow dish of warm water, about ¼" deep. Immerse the print head in the water for 10 to 15 minutes. Wipe the water off with a soft tissue or cotton swab before installing it back in the printer.

5. How can I prevent my print head from burning out?
Discontinue printing when print quality deteriorates as this indicates low ink level. Avoid printing in a no ink situation as this will result in the resistors overheating, which may damage the print head.

Do not attempt to continue printing when printouts display white streaks. Clean or refill the cartridge if necessary.

It is important to refill a cartridge, as soon as it begins to run out of ink. This prevents dried ink from clogging nozzles and excess heat from causing them to "burn out".

Troubleshooting for Inkjet Printing

1. What should I do when the printouts have white streaks or show areas with no ink?
Conduct a print head cleaning process.
If this does not work, remove cartridge from printer and carry out the Pressure Balance Procedure as indicated in the Inké User Guide.

2. Why doesn't my cartridge print after refilling?
Refer to Question 1 above.

3. Why is the image/text blurred/smudged?
Some of the nozzles may be clogged. You need to carry out the cartridge head cleaning process. (Refer to your printer manual for more information.)

4. Why does ink leak from nozzles after refill?
Pressure balancing on the ink cartridge was not optimized during the first refill. This might be due to the deteriorated condition of the printhead nozzles or the cartridge. Conduct the Pressure Balancing Process as stated in the Inké User Guide.

Inkjet Cartridge Refilling

1. When should I refill my cartridge?
Refilling should be done as soon as the ink runs low. It is even better if you start refilling earlier. Printing with an empty cartridge will cause the electrical circuits to overheat, resulting in a damaged printhead.

2. What should I do when printer driver prompts "low ink" even after refilling?
Certain HP printers have a memory effect when a single cartridge is placed into the printer. Unless a different cartridge is loaded, the ink level registered will always remain in the driver no matter how many times you unload and reload the cartridge into the printer.

This does not affect the quality or the functionality of the cartridge and the printer. The cartridge will still print normally even though the driver prompts the ink level is low. In such instance, the heavier weight of the cartridge after refill will confirm you have a full tank.

3. What is the difference between standard dye-based ink and pigmented ink?
   Dye-base ink
         less water-resistant
         less fade-resistant
   Pigmented ink
         more water-resistant
         more fade-resistant
Inké HS-45 uses pigmented ink for optimal print quality.

4. Will inkjet ink react to extreme temperature?
Yes. Extreme temperature change will cause chemical reactions which affect the ink. See Question 2 above.

5. Why should I refill my inkjet cartridge?
Refilling means recycling your inkjet cartridge. Through refilling you can take advantage of the extended life of the print head. Refilling your cartridges is good for the environment and lets you enjoy tremendous savings on your total cartridge expenditure.

There are also substantial absolute savings as opposed to buying a new original cartridge. See the Savings section to learn more. You will be shocked by the amount of money that you can save each year.

6. How many times can we refill the original cartridge?
You should be able to refill your original cartridge approximately 5-8 times depending on how well you maintain the cartridge.

7. After refilling, why does the cartridge indicator still show that it is not full?
HP #40 and HP #45 cartridges use a green indicator on the side to indicate how much ink is left. This green indicator moves out of view when the cartridge is empty and may not reappear after refilling. This is due to the way that the indicator is made. However, you can tell that the cartridge is full by its weight. After refilling, the cartridge will be noticeably heavier than when it was empty.

Inké Refilling

1. What type of ink does Inké HS-45 use?
Inké HS-45 uses pigmented ink for optimal print quality.

2. What is the best storage condition for Inké ink?
For best storage condition, store within 15°C - 40°C.
Refer to the Inké box packaging / user guide.

3. How do I know when the cartridge is full after refilling with the Inké system?
When the Start button turns orange after refilling, it means that the cartridge has been successfully refilled. Refer to the Inké user guide.

4. Is Inké ink quality comparable to OEM ink?
Definitely! Ink quality makes a tremendous contribution to the quality of the print when it is used to refill your cartridge. Inferior ink may damage your print head nozzles by clogging it as their parameters such as the drying time, density, viscosity, surface tension, and pH value might differ greatly from the original ink.

HS-45 ink is tested under rigorous conditions to ensure the optimal quality compatible to that of the OEM. Formulation of the ink used in HS-45 underwent strict laboratory conditions to ensure you will get the print outputs as good as the OEM. As a matter of interest, it took our company more than two years to arrive at the right formula for our ink.

5. How long is the shelf life of the Inké ink?
The shelf life of the ink is two years. If the ink tank is kept at normal room temperature and not subjected to direct sunlight, it will maintain its quality throughout that time.

6. Is refilling with the Inké system easy? How long does it take?
Inké refilling is mess-free, stress-free and easy to use. Inké comes with a step-by-step User Guide. Just drop in an Inké Ink Tank and the original cartridge, press the Start button, and the system does the rest. It takes only 2-3 minutes to refill with Inké.

7. Will the Inké refilling process spoil my cartridge?
No. Inké guarantees that the cartridge refilled will perform as well as the OEM's supplies under similar conditions.

8. Are Inké inkjet refills as good as the original cartridges?
Inké inkjet refills are developed after extensive research and development to give you absolute assurance of use and are comparable to originals within specfied limits.

9. What are the blue ink tanks that come with the Inké system?
The blue ink tanks are protective tanks. These come with the system to facilitate the purging of any excess ink in the system and then storing the system till further use.

The protective tanks are designed for refilling 6 cartridges a year so as to allow the purged ink to evaporate in them. If a user continuously uses the system to refill more often, like 7 to 8 times a week, the protective tanks will overflow. Hence, frequent users are required to change these tanks for additional ones.

10. My ink tank still has ink in it after it has been used. Can I reuse it?
No, you should not reuse your used ink tank even if it still has ink inside. The Inke ink tanks are meant for single-use only. Reusing old ink tanks may damage the Auto Refill System.

11. Why Inké and not manual refilling kits?
Manual refilling is messy, complex and at times dangerous due to the use of injection needles and drill tools. With the Inké Auto Refill System, refilling is economical, easy to use and ecological.
